All about power

Chargers are always an integral part of smartphones. Though for sure smartphones are just basically pieces of metal and chemicals up to the moment current passes through them, not many considered the power aspect of phones, up until fast charging technology was introduced.

Fast Charging

The general idea of charging technology surely involves knowledge in chemistry and physics, but to avoid the hustle of taking one back to physics class, batteries charge by receiving electricity through chargers, but up until 7 years ago there was a limitation as to how much is really supplied and received by the charger.

In the transfer process, usb-c technology was invented making the cables powerful enough to deliver around 100Watts of power, all this means is a phone will be able to charge in just under 20mins. This is far from what we have today though, for phones still take just over an hour to charge while the fastest in the market takes around half an hour, the question is why not just deliver the full 100watts?

Battery Endurance

Whats clear is recent batteries cant handle the full power delivered by the cables just yet hence the use of charge controllers to make sure a phone doesn’t blow up on someones face. This will be possible in afew years by graphene, and surely in less that 2 years due to the announcement by xiaomi that the companies smartphones in 2021 will support upto 120watts fast charge. This will enable a phone charge in just 18mins, nothing can surely get better than this in our current smartphone era.

Wireless Charging

Surely this is where all smartphones are heading, including recent rumours that upcoming high-end smartphones wont include chargers in attempt to make people buy wireless ones and even coming phones next year, wont even have charging ports, totally scrapping the use of cables forever.

Modders figured out how to increase the Google Pixel 3's wireless ...

With this the magnetic coil induction technology has been improved to sustain fast charging as the recent high end phones can use 30watt charging, reverse charge each other and even charge the new wireless ear buds such as airpods pro that are now an integral part of everyones life.

Conclusion

Surely with the world getting busier its a relief to know in a few years charging time wont be a problem at all, this will for sure expand the possibilities of smartphone technology, increasing the smartphone ecosystem and making an all wireless world through the various devices from smartwatches to even laptops, and the company ready for this is certainly Apple.
